Our attention is valuable, not only because it is in high demand, but because it is powerful. The online world has created a new economy where our attention is the raw resource, and it is being extracted from us just like fossil fuels are being extracted from the earth for the carbon economy. The monetizing of our attention is having an impact on our youth, democracy, climate change and our individual moment to moment quality of life.
